Atherosclerosis is the build up of material on the artery wall know as a plaque. When the plaque ruptures they can cause heart attacks or stoke. Currently the only way to determine if a plaque is likely to rupture is by invasive techniques, which may also de-stabilise the plaque. The aim of this highly collaborative project between Dr Anne Graham from the University of Bradford, Dr Olivier Cayre and Dr Ravinder Vohra from the University of Leeds and Leeds NHS Foundation Trust, is to develop a novel non-invasive technique to determine vulnerable plaques. |
