There is an unmet clinical need for early repair of cartilage defects caused by traumatic injury or onset of osteoarthritis. This project will explore a novel source of stem cells and their potential use in the repair of cartilage defects. Researchers from the Centre for Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering group at the University of Sheffield, led by Dr Aileen Crawford will work with the Prof Dennis McGonagle from the Academic Unit of Musculoskeletal Diseases at the University of Leeds, Calderdale Royal Hospital and Smith and Nephew to further develop this promising technique.
