The assessment of the risk of foetal anomalies within the first trimester of pregnancy requires well trained ultrasonographers who can measure nuchal translucency (a fluid filled space on the foetal neck) with precision. Dr Rick Jones and his team are developing a web based application to enable ongoing quality assurance of ultrasound practitioners. This project will result in further R&D collaborations and a license within the next year. There is also further potential for a spin out company as the techniques developed will be applicable to the growing use of imaging for quantitative analysis. The project can be seen on http://www.ychi.leeds.ac.uk/ultrasoundqa |
