The School of Clinical Dentistry at the University of Sheffield has been awarded £35,500 to develop a continuing professional development (CPD) website providing courses for dental technicians. The team headed by Prof van Noort will build an extensive CPD programme to meet the needs of the dental technicians brought about by the compulsory registration with the General Dental Council (GDC). The emphasis of the project is to develop theoretical and practical modules to help meet the GDC requirements for CPD for dental technicians. The website called “Dental Additions” will provide on-line courses available throughout the year, details of hands-on, task-based sessions provided by the school, and an annual study day. In addition to home grown courses the “Dental Additions” website provides an excellent opportunity for other Universities, public bodies and companies to advertise their CPD courses.
