The first in the series of WRHIP Technology Watch Seminars was held at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, on 14th March and was a great success.

This seminar was planned to coincide with the Fifth Annual New Jersey Biomedical Engineering Showcase also held at Rutgers (http://bmeshowcase.rutgers.edu/). WRHIP was proud to sponsor Professor Sheila MacNeil from the University of Sheffield to attend this event as the Plenary speaker.

Professor MacNeil, who has recently embarked on a WRHIP Proof of Concept funded project with Dr Mike Jaffe at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (see Proof of Concept Fund for more details), also spoke at the WRHIP Technology Watch Seminar along with Dr Jaffe. The topic of this seminar was 'Tissue Engineering: Perspectives on Emerging Technologies' and a number of experts from New Jersey industry, academia and the medical school at UMDNJ spoke about their areas of research and thoughts for the future. They included: Ewa Herbst, the President and CEO of Herbst Research; Ramsey Foty, Assistant Professor of Surgery at UMDNJ; Charles Gatt, Chair of Orthopaedics at UMDNJ; Debabrata Banerjee, Associate Professor of Medicine and Pharmacology at Cancer Institute of NJ/ UMDNJ.
